WNDB talk show April 7, DSC News-Journal Center

Features: DSC president, home improvement experts 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 4, 2016) – The Marc Bernier Show on Thursday, April 7, will air

live from 3 to 6 p.m. at Daytona State College’s News-Journal Center in Daytona Beach. The show features a conversation with DSC President Tom LoBasso, followed by experts discussing house design and projects to improve your home.

The special series of WNDB 93.5FM/1150 AM’s Marc Bernier Show hosted by DSC focuses on community topics of interest, news, wide-ranging guests and call-in time for listeners.

Following President LoBasso in the 3-4 p.m. hour, Bernier will chat with three Daytona State professors on topics related to home building and renovation.










  • Professor Bethany Creamer is assistant chair of the School of Building and Architectural
    Technology; a licensed interior designer, Aging-in-Place Specialist and advisor for Team Daytona Beach, a partnership between DSC and Embry Riddle to design and build a solar house for the international 2017 Solar Decathlon competition. 
  • Professor Anne-Marie Muldowney is a civil structural engineer and specializes in “Sustainable Development” green architecture; she teaches full time for the School of Building and Architectural Technology; she is also an advisor for Team Daytona Beach in the Solar Decathlon competition.
  • Instructor Michael Taylor is an expert in home construction – and built his own home from the ground up; he teaches DSC’s new construction certificate in the College of Workforce, Continuing and Adult Education; his 20 years of teaching include shop, woodworking and construction. He has a degree in Vocational Education from Cornell University. 

In addition to news of the day, Bernier will feature home renovation expert Carl Bernier and other professionals in the building and construction industry.

Bernier Show topics: study abroad, in-demand workforce programs, DSC’s STEM Expo

25th Anniversary Show features "Super Volusionairies" panel of 12

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2015) – The Marc Bernier 25th Anniversary Showon Thursday, Jan. 21, will air live from 3 to 6 p.m. at Daytona State College's News-Journal Center in Daytona
Beach. The show features a "Super Volusionairies" panel of 12 in the final hour, preceded by DSC professors discussing the latest in workforce education and training, including a new certificate in construction; study abroad and service learning; and DSC's STEM Expo on Jan. 29 for teens and college students (STEM = science, technology, engineering and math).

The special series of WNDB 93.5FM/1150 AM's Marc Bernier Show hosted by DSC focuses on community topics of interest, news, wide-ranging guests and call-in time for listeners.

In the 3-4 p.m. hour, Bernier will chat with five DSC professors on topics ranging from the hospitality business to studying abroad with Teaching Beyond Borders.


  • Professor Vincent Piazza, humanities/history/culture, is a leader in DSC's study abroad in Europe, taking students to Italy and elsewhere; he is a strong advocate for multiculturalism.
  • Professor Dr. Donald May, in the bachelor's in education program, launched service-learning trips two years ago to Haiti; Nicaragua is this spring for Teaching Without Borders.
  • Associate Vice President Dr. Mary Bruno, is an expert in workforce programs including the new construction certificate, automotive, machining, welding, cosmetology, barbering, etc. in DSC's College of Workforce, Continuing and Adult Education.
  • Professor LaKisha Holmes will talk about DSC's programs in STEM and the STEM EXPO for hundreds of high school and college students on Jan. 29; she is in DSC's School of Mathematics and is Principal Investigator for DSC's STEM Community Scholars Program.
     
  • Dean Costa Magoulas heads DSC's Mori Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary Management and is a food/hospitality expert for numerous media outlets.

In addition to news of the day, Bernier will feature a "Super Volusionairies" panel of 12 to weigh in on hot topics of the day in the 5-6 hour.

Oct. 15 Bernier Show at DSC looks at: academics partnering with industry, research to help the lagoon, students stepping up for civic duty

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 12, 2015) – It takes a village to build multi-faceted economic
development – not to mention stepping up civic duty to foster regional pride and high quality of life. Such topics with DSC faculty and students will open discussion during the Thursday, Oct. 15, Marc Bernier Show airing live, 3-5 p.m. from Daytona State College’s News-Journal Center in Daytona Beach.

WNDB 93.5FM/1150 AM’s special series of Bernier’s show hosted by DSC focuses on community topics of interest, news, wide-ranging guests and call-in time for listeners.

In the 3-4 hour, top DSC STEM and allied health professors will discuss hot jobs and industries, noting internships that ‘work’ for study and connections. From chemistry to medical assisting to engineering – clinical, real-world experience is critical. Students will add to the conversation with on-the-job experiences.

At 4:15, DSC art professor Kandy Lopez, an accomplished painter, will explain a public service mural underway at Daytona Beach Police Dept. with two DSC art students. The 4:30-5 slot will feature DSC’s Institute for Marine & Environmental Science director Dr. Debra Woodall and students whose research to benefit the Indian River Lagoon will highlight a special symposium called SHORE on Nov. 6.

In addition to news of the day, Bernier’s next segment features “The Money All-Stars,” Joe Derosa and Duke Seegers, talking about the week’s stock market ebb and flow.

Aug. 27 Bernier Show at DSC features timely topics – cybersecurity, stock market, performing arts

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 26, 2015) – Experts in cybercrime prevention, politics and social media, theatre, the arts and music production will fill out this Thursday’s (Aug. 27) Marc Bernier Show airing live from Daytona State College’s News-Journal Center in Daytona Beach.

WNDB 93.5FM/1150 AM’s special series of Bernier’s show hosted by DSC focuses on community topics of interest, news, wide-ranging guests and call-in time for listeners.

To discuss cybersecurity and social media issues of today, Bernier’s first guests, 3 to 3:30 p.m., are Daytona State experts Dr. Philip Craiger, who heads up the $1.8 million National Science Foundation-funded Advanced Cyberforensics Education Consortium (ACE), and Dr. Harold ‘Trey’ Orndorf III, social media expert and political science professor specializing in the American presidency, with a number of published works, most recently, “Social Media and Politics.”

Next up, 3:30-4:30 p.m., a trio of DSC professors will share cultural goings-on at the college, ranging from an upcoming murder-mystery dinner theater to studio arts and music production. Recent DSC Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art alumni have moved on to careers or prestigious art colleges in Nashville, New York, Savannah and more. Guests are Prof. Samantha Stern, an Actors Guild member and head of DSC’s drama department; Trent Berning, a celebrated ceramist and chair of DSC’s Studio Arts program; and Jake Nicely, an award-winning Nashville music producer who heads up DSC’s Music Production Technology program.

Discussing news of the week, political commentator John LeBoutilier, former Republican member of the House of Representatives from New York, will also answer listener call-ins from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

Bernier Show at DSC features discussion of the law and “The Money All-Stars”

Public invited to attend or call into the 10/23 event

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 7, 2014) – A professor and legal expert will enlighten listeners and visitors through a discussion with students – “Looking at the Law” – during WNDB 93.5FM/1150 AM’s Marc Bernier Show, a live broadcast hosted by Daytona State College, set for Thursday, Oct. 23. This special series of Bernier’s show focuses on community topics of interest, news, wide-ranging guests and an open forum.

Bernier’s first guests are Daytona State professor Kim Grippa and students from her paralegal studies course enacting a class activity examining questions of law in case studies. Grippa holds a J.D. from Florida State University College of Law and a B.S. in Business Administration from State University of New York at Albany. Among her career highlights, she is a Master Faculty graduate and was appointed to Judge David Beck’s Pro Se Litigant Project and was recognized by the 7th Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Litem Office for the recruitment of  volunteer child advocates. The exercise and discussion run from 3 to 5 p.m.; all are welcome to attend and add questions or comments.

In addition to news of the day, his next segment features "The Money All-Stars" talking about money issues in a panel discussion from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to pose questions and share insights during the panel talk.

3rd Bernier Show at DSC features medical marijuana discussion and Volusianaires

Public invited to forum with Volusianaires
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 20, 2014) – Both sides of Florida’s medical marijuana topic will be discussed during WNDB 1150 AM’s Marc Bernier Show in the third live radio show hosted by Daytona State College, set for Aug. 28. This special series of Bernier’s radio show focuses on community topics of interest, news, wide-ranging guests and an open forum.

Bernier’s first guests are attorney John Morgan, chair of the United for Care Campaign – an organization in support of legalizing medical marijuana in Florida, and Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos, president of the Brevard County Medical Society and a voice in the Sheriffs Association’s “Don't Let Florida Go to Pot” initiative.

Other guests include a faculty expert from Daytona State College, and a board member of DSC’s Foundation, who will share insights about the fundraising arm of the institution and the annual Gala set for Sept. 18; this year the Gala honors the Bert Fish Foundation and Dr. William Shildecker.

Following the guest interviews, the broadcast will feature a “McLaughlin Group-esque” discussion with four Volusianaires – Jim Purdy, Pat Northey, Candace Lankford and Arthur Byrnes. Bernier encourages the public to join in and serve as “Spin Room” participants for the 5-7 p.m. segment with review of the primary and looking ahead to the general election, in addition to news of the day.

Daytona State hosts special edition of the Marc Bernier Show

Public invited to forum on proposed space port
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 18, 2014) - Daytona State College hosts a live radio show with Marc Bernier of WNDB 1150 AM from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, at the college’s News-Journal Center, 221 N. Beach St. in downtown Daytona Beach.

The first in a series of occasional live radio shows on community topics of interest to be held at the News-Journal Center, this edition will feature news, wide-ranging guests and an open forum from 5 to 7 on the proposed space port for Shiloh.
