Daytona State faculty to host free workshops

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 27, 2014) – Daytona State College’s Center for Interdisciplinary Writing and Research (CIWR) will host two free, public workshops in September, one centered around promoting healthy eating, the other on collaborative creativity.

Dr. Heather Eaton, English professor, health coach and nutrition specialist, will present the first workshop, “Mindful Eating: Healing Your Relationship with Food, Cultivating Healthy Weight and Preventing Disease through Awareness Practices and Acupuncture,” on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 3:30 p.m. The session will be in the Mary Karl Memorial Learning Resources Center, room 211 on the Daytona Beach Campus, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. Participants will learn how to enjoy food without feeling guilty, gaining weight or ruining one’s health.

On Thursday, Sept. 9, faculty from the college’s photography, music and English departments will present a special interactive session called “The Evolution of Pseudonym: Challenging You to Collaborate.” Participants will experience two video-poems and engage in a conversation about identity, voice and creativity with faculty members Eric Breitenbach (photography), Scott Velazco (music) and Dr. Michelle Lee (English). Attendees will discover how they can form their own creative collectives and partnerships that will result in informative and inspiring work. The workshop begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Madorsky Theater in the Hosseini Center on the Daytona Beach Campus.

Students are encouraged to attend the workshops, which are free and open to the public.
