Daytona State announces 16-hour training for certified pool operation

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 30, 2014) - The Center for Business & Industry at Daytona State College announces a 16-hour course to become a certified pool operator. Established by the National Swimming Pool Foundation, the CPO course is designed to provide the knowledge necessary to safely and efficiently manage and operate swimming pools and spas.

Taught by a 15-year veteran of the pool and spa industry, this course will be held Tuesday, June 10, Wednesday, June 11, and Thursday, June 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. and concludes on Saturday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. Cost is $295 and includes textbooks.

Topics covered during the course include: Water Chemistry; Filtration - Circulation; Maintenance; Operations and Safety; Calculations; Spa/Hot Tub; and Health Code.

Volusia County Health Department Public Swimming Pool and Bathing Places (code 64E-9.018) states:Any individual who services a public pool by maintaining the cleanliness, water quality and chemical balance of a public pool shall be certified. To ensure the pool technician is knowledgeable, said technician shall attend a training course of national recognition that is approved by the department.” Upon completion of this course, the student must demonstrate knowledge of the topics covered in the Certified Pool Operators course, by successfully answering 75 percent of the questions on the National Swimming Pool Foundation written Certified Pool Operators certification exam.

The instructor for this course is Richard Drolshagen, owner of Perfect Pools, a nationally accredited, fully licensed and insured company that has been in the pool service business for more than 15 years. Drolshagen is an active member in the National Swimming Pool Foundation, Port Orange Chamber of Commerce and Association of Pool & Spa Professionals, and currently holds certifications as a certified pool operator, instructor and inspector.
